A DIY video for a DIY band
Musically, I had fallen in love with truly collaborative teamwork. After years as a solo artist, I was suddenly in the band Birthday Project. There’s something electrifying about ideas that are more than the sum of their parts; and something freeing about not having your name stamped on everything. Having said that, when it came time to make a music video, I had to work hard to not just grab the remote and do it my way. Instead, I brought a vision to the band, and we went from there. I packed a shot list and my camera, then did my best to step back and let my bandmates’ personalities shine. We did everything ourselves, in a friend’s garage.
