What started as a necessity – editing my own music videos and content as a musician (both for my solo work and my first band) – grew into a renewed love of a craft I had taught myself as a teenager, and a desire to dive back in and take it further. I felt pretty embrassed that all I had made was zero budget music videos featuring my own face, but when Twenty-Three took home Best Music Video at my first film festival in 2021, trying to do this “for real” didn’t seem so silly anymore.
In researching for my masters thesis, I fell in love with animation editing, and upon finishing my degree, began full-time work as edit assist on a new animated show for ABC Kids. It was the best. In animation, even the passive aggressive notes about cleaning up in the kitchen are fun! I hope to continue working in that niche as much as the small industry will allow, whilst continuing to cut longer form passion projects on the side. Genre films are of particular interest, something cutting the sci-fi and musical confirmed for me.
I applied to the editing course at AFTRS and was accepted, graduating two years later with a portfolio that featured documentary, drama, sci-fi and even a musical. And, more importantly, a network of collaborators and dear friends. Working with others is endlessly more fun than doing everything myself!
